Project Run-away

I just finished watching Project Runway season 8's finale, and I was extremely disappointed. Fashion makes you antsy. It makes you want to go out and get that RIGHT then, and most of all I want to say a fashion show should make you jump out of your seat. (If you love fashion).

Watching the show I knew it would be cl
ose between Mondo and Gretchen. Yes, In the begining of the show I was bias because Gretchen was from Portland Oregon and it's always a great feeling to see a fellow Oregonian on television. But sadly I was let down by her lack of inspiration. I believe she is a great designer, but I also believe that if you walked into an Urban Outfitters you would see clothes that are very similar. To me, a new designer needs to bring NEW ideas to the stage. They need you to want to change your style. To fit their clothes into what makes your personality. To me Mondo brought the A-game to Project Runway.

Here are some photos that
I liked of both Gretchen and Mondo. I'll explain why. If you'd like to view the show http://notes-on-fashion.blogspot.com/2010/09/project-runway-season-8-finale-spring.html has pictures of all the designers.

MONDO'S

Left:
As this look walked onto the runway I couldn't stop saying how I wanted these tights. They way Mondo can put two patterns together is art. As told from a young age I've always shied away from mixing prints. I thought it was a No-No. But Mondo has turned this into a Yes-Yes. This look is beautiful, from the colors in the scull to the clean feeling of the nude fabric then a dash of "Mondo" into the tights.

Right:
Micheal Kors had a point. There is no skin in this dress. But was lost. We all know the low cut back on a dress makes it a sexier look and Mondo used this for the dress. He created a design that covered a woman's body and still made her gorgeous. No skin was needed.

Left:
This outfit I want to slip on and put some tights under and just lounge around in. Yet doing that I know that I'd still look good while eating potato chips and watching TV.

Right:
This top is may favorite. it bright the
color into a darker outfit in a happy feeling. Mondo took an outfit that could look dark and created a magnificent cute look.

*I want to add that I do see how the judges could take Mondo's designs as more of a "teenager" look, but many of the looks in the line could be taken and put into a work outfit.*

GRETCHEN'S

Left: This look is gorgeous. I love the shine of the pants, the high waist and the clean feel of this outfit. Looking at this piece not up against Mondo it's graceful. But once I take a glance at Mondo's designs this beautiful outfit by Gretchen has hit a snooze button.

Right: For a light fabric used in this dress I am extremely impressed by the collar of this dress. I've tried to do designs like this and to find a balance in the fabric to make it not fall over is a very hard thing to do. But yes this pattern and the other patterns used by Gretchen made it seem like it was on repeat.

Gawker shares the same feeling I have with this season of project runway if you'd like to read that too.

In all I believe the judges clearly let a good designer get away. A pattern God is what I can state about Mondo.

Please take a look at the blog I posted of the fashion designers and take a look at Micheal C.'s line. I think his dresses were exquisite. The way all his dresses flow I would wear all of them. I believe he deserves to have been in the top 3. Micheal really has a talent with fabric, even if he may not know the names of them. He knows what they're used for.

Please do tell me how you felt about this season of Project Runway. If you agree, or if you disagree with my opinion. I'd love to here your view. Yes, there must be people out there who believe Gretchen deserved to win. People who loved her clothes as much as I loved Mondo's and I'd really like to here that. Not to argue, but to discuss your views on this.

Also if you take a look at Micheal C.'s please comment about that too.

Thank you for reading

Questions For you.

I have been back from New York for about a week now. My sister showed me a lot of stores in soho that we don't have were I live. One of my favortie stores being Uniqlo,. If you haven't heard of this you should visit their website. http://www.uniqlo.com/us/ As my sister explained what kind of store they are she said they have a lot of clothing collection starters. Shirts in different colors with different collars, leggings in all colors.. etc.
For about 50 dollars I because the owner of a yellow v-neck t-shirt for about 6 dollars, a sea foam green scarf for about 7, sea foam green leggings for about 5 dollars, and a zip up jacket for 20 something. Sadly I already don't know where the jacket is. Hopefully it has just become one with my enormous pile of laundry.

Here are some pictures being in Virginia and New York.

I wanted to ask you all a few questions, my readers who are out there...
Where is your favorite store?

What about the color you own the most of?

Favorite clothing item?

By plane... By train... By bus...

I'm on my way to New York on a bus. The place that is know for it's fashion. Yes, I am thrilled and basically jumping out of my skin to be back to the place that first inspired me to try becoming involved in fashion. My sister offered to buy me a magazine before we left and she showed me the magazine rack. I pick out one, then another, then another! Everything looked so interesting. I recently threw out all my magazines. (about 4 years of a collection). It had become such a clutter. But now I seem to fall back into my ways buying 3 magazines in one sitting.

Sadly, my poor sewing machine is still broken. Which does upset me a lot because I would love to be able to buy fabrics and begin sewing again, it has been to long. I had a dream the other night about going to these great vintage stores and buying an abundance of clothes. I woke up with tears in my eyes because I realized it wasn't true. So. I told my boyfriend we had to go shopping.

Lately I have begun to hate the mainstream fashion more then usual. I hate the repeat of clothing and the set backs to high waste and florals. As much as I love those they are like skinny jeans, once they become popular .you drop them and find a new trend.

I know I haven't written much lately, and I know I'm all over the board today, but it's because i have so much I haven't written down in so long. Yes my closet full of clothes has become a broken record, and that's exactly why I'm so excited for New York. As many people know --or at least should know-- the fashion in the east coast is usually very ahead of the west coast. There for I can see what will be in style next for the west coast. Sadly I visited H&M in Washington D C and fount nothing to my interest. Their first floor was more classic date night clothes, ALL NEUTRALS. Yes I do love neutral clothes, but no, I do not buy them. Neutrals only look good on a very select number of skin types, mine not included. Being a yellowish tone neutrals make me fade away. And all women should work with what they are given. Just enhance it and find the unique beauty. That was/is hard to find on a daily basis for me. Some days I can "work it" some I'd rather pack on the makeup and make it do my job.

But that's my ten cents today. I'm beginning to get bus sick. I'll try to write soon.

My father and I had a conversation today about all my goodwill clothes in the garage. He told me he couldn't believe how many I have had. But since 6th grade, I haven't grown, haven't changed styles. So for about 7 years now I've just been adding to clothes.
My least favorite thing is looking back at old pictures and realizing I have no clue where the shirt went, or the pants. They vanish to belong to a friend of mine, or to be left in a hotel. There are plenty of shirts that were my favorite that I have misplaced, or even forgotten I gave away. But I love the feeling of looking through the clothes I've stuffed into a bag for goodwill a year later and realizing that I love something. I also love the trade at lightly used clothing stores. To give one shirt away as receiving another. How could you not love that.

For the past year now I have wanted to write my own blog, but I could never think of what to write. Finally I decided I need to jump in. My name is Tavia, I'm 18, and I've been in love with fashion since I was 4.
It all began with the little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's. My grandmother handed me the VHS of this movie and since then there hasn't been a day I didn't wish I could become a fashion designer.
I went to a private school and stood out for my strange taste in clothes and hair color choices. After a trip to Italy I came back with pink and blue in my hair.
In 8th grade we were able to choose an independent project. Since 4th I had been planning to sew my own dress for graduation. I wrote papers on the growth of fashion since the 30's and studied with a mentor. In the end I had 3 dresses created. One being a mid-length blown dress for graduation. I still love the dress and hope for an occasion to be able to wear it.
There was one point in the year were I learned if you see your creation you must jump on the fabric you need. I created a fitted neon nylon dress with tulle at the bottom. Where I saw the perfect fabric I was talked out by my mother and my mentor. "Stretchy nylon is impossible to sew." as I was told. A week later I decided if this was my project I'd need to learn myself and not be told. So we went back to the fabric store and the perfect fabric I had found wasn't sold anymore. I had to settle. The dress is still a head turner, but I still regret not jumping on the fabric.
Now I'm 18, sitting at home. I graduated from high school this year a semester early. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life. I'm going to beauty school in the fall so I can have a steady job. Becoming a Fashion Designer seems so difficult nowadays. But I will always be drawing in my sketchbooks, and awing at beautiful clothing. Hopefully one day dreams will become my reality.
